Neuquén Province Ministry of Education

[Product, Packaging & Editorial Design]

A public-sector digital transformation project aimed at improving the usability of administrative systems used by educators and government staff across the province.

The work focused on designing clearer interfaces, improving navigation and information structure, and creating tutorials to support the transition from paper-based processes to digital platforms.

BRIEF

The Ministry of Education launched an intensive initiative to modernize bureaucratic processes by digitizing operations previously handled in person.
I joined as the first designer on the team, which primarily consisted of system analysts.

Existing interfaces were basic and difficult to navigate, relying heavily on red-highlighted text without differentiating procedure types.

The project was aimed at all education personnel in the province, from teachers to administrative staff.

ROLE & CONTRIBUTION

I acted as UX/UI Designer, Information Architect, and Communication Designer, supporting the team due to budget constraints.

Collaborated with system professionals, a frontend developer, and multiple stakeholders to ensure the system met user needs.

* Designed front-end interfaces and improved usability of multiple systems
* Coordinated meetings and interviews to define UX and validate prototypes
* Wrote navigation text and developed animated tutorials to guide users
* Designed data visualization reports for the occupational medicine system

PROCESS

1. Daily team meetings & requirement analysis
2. Stakeholder interviews & user research
3. UX/UI design & prototyping in Figma
4. Iteration and validation with users and team
5. Implementation of approved designs
6. Data visualization design and communication support

Tools used:
Figma, Jira, Slack, Adobe Suite

RESULTS & IMPACT

* Implemented improved navigation and usability across multiple systems: SISO (occupational medicine), Portal Único Docente, Legajos, Asambleas On-Line, Sistema de Rendiciones, and Sistema de Mantenimiento Edilicio
* Reduced user queries and increased successful online transactions
* Streamlined bureaucratic and administrative processes

Challenges:

Very tight deadlines, low budget, limited tools, complex content (data-heavy tables), and users of all ages, most accustomed to in-person procedures. Additionally, the system team had no prior experience working with a designer.
